South -east Asian members of the ginger family. Magnificant plants with tall hollow stems and broad glossy leaves but their best feature is the sweetly scented flower. The hardier ones are well worth trying in mild areas out of doors, the most scented are great in a conservatory in big pots. Roots, flowers and sap scented of ginger.
