Ipheion Rolf Fiedler
The RHS Award of Garden Merit
‘Rolf Fiedler’ is a rare variety of Ipheion, and there has been debate as to its actual species. However, it bears the typical Ipheion flower, a fragrant six-pointed star over an inch (3cm) across, in a cobalt blue with striking yellow anthers. The flowers massed above the grassy foliage in spring readily form a carpet as the years pass, and last well when picked. They like a warm sheltered site, ideally baked in the sun. The leaves smell faintly of garlic when crushed and can be damaged by late frost, but usually recover completely.
