Iris danfordiae
Iris danfordiae is from mountain locations in Turkey where it flowers near the snowline. This gorgeous yellow dwarf Iris was found in 1876 by Mrs. Danford. It may not flower reliably the second and third years, but if buried deep and left undisturbed, it will come back and naturalise by bulblet. The flowers are fragrant and suit containers and rock gardens, preferring a sunny, slightly sheltered position flowering in December / January at 5" tall.
Planting instructions
Plant the bulbs 2-4” (5-10cm) apart at twice their own depth in well-drained, rich peaty soil in sun or partial shade. Top dress the soil with grit so the flowers are not splashed with soil in rain.
