Iris unguicularis Abington Purple
Easily idenbtified by the almost total absense of a stem, the flowers are a purply-blue, with a ruffled petal and well-marked standards. Introduced by Rev Richard Blakeway-Phillips, it was named after the village in which he found it growing. The short narrow leafed habit makes them less untidy and the flowers more visible, but they appear to need warmer conditions. Flowering in February / March to 8".
