Narcissus Xit
A hybrid of N. watieri with a very distinctive white flower. This grows on our heavier loam soils in light grass and shade very happily so is not as difficult to grow as sometimes thought. The sparkling white flower exhibits hardly any trumpet at all, just a neat flared greenish white cup. The foliage is low and unobtrusive and it flowers in April 6” (15cm) high.
Planting instructions
By repute this form needs a well drained site, but we grow it in shade and light grass. Plant them with 3” (8cm) of soil over the bulb. This Narcissus is also suitable for pots. Do not be tempted to cut back or tidy the foliage after flowering – this period of replenishment of the bulb's starchy food reserves is critical to future flowering. A liquid feed while starchy leaves are still green will benefit clumps in poorer soil. I would suggest you plant them in distinct groups and not randomly – the effect is generally better. They should clump up from being planted about 4" (10cm) apart, further apart for more 'relaxed' planting.
