A real character amongst the tulips, Shirley is a changeling! A Single Late form, she starts off really quite ivory or even creamy white with slight purplish speckling, then as the flower matures the pale background colour fades to a clearer white whilst the speckles develop into a purple edge to the petal with dark staining in purple. Gradually the purple develops to become the more dominant colour. Interesting throughout. For a sunny site in the garden, flowering in May, 20” (50cm) tall.
Looks good with whites, purples or pale yellows.
Planting instructions
Plant the bulbs 5” (12cm) deep and 5” (12cm) apart, or allow 7-9 per square foot in a position that has a sunny aspect at flowering time in May.
