As most of you will know, the common name to Alcea is Hollyhock, and these biennial plants have been a staple of back or border displays or cottage gardens for so many years. They thrive in well drained soils, are drought tolerant, and flower best when situated in a full sun aspect. Measuring up to 6 feet (180cm) tall, these imposing plants throw tall flower spikes throughout the summer that can measure up to 10cm per flower. As you can imagine, the bees and butterflies absolutely love these! The Chaters Double range are some of the most proven on the market, having been bred by Chater of Essex all the way back in the late 1800’s!
