Tulip Flaming Purissima was bred from T. fosteriana found in the mountains of Central Asia. An eye-catching flower, it is creamy coloured at the base, with a deepening rosy-pink to the edges of the petals, This becomes increasingly dominant as the flower matures, feathering gracefully in from the edge of the petals which are eventually mostly red when fully developed, with dark anthers.
Plant Tulip Flaming Purissima in drifts for a spectacular display planted 6" (15cm) deep and 5" (12cm) apart in a reasonably sunny site, out of strong wind but in at least half sun. Suitable for containers. Don't be in a rush to get the tulips into the ground as they will benefit from planting in late October or early November, by which time the first frosts will have reduced disease levels in the soil.
