They are a splendid and showy small tulip with bowl shaped scarlet red flowers with pointed tips, opening flat in bright sunlight to show a dark base to the flower. The leaves are grey-green with wavy edges and fairly distinctive fine red margins. Tulipa linifolia occurs naturally in Iran, Uzbekistan & Turkestan.
Tulipa linifolia has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
Tulip linifolia is a very satisfactory small tulip for the sunny well drained garden where the bulbs should be planted 3" (8cm) deep and about 2-4" (5-10cm) apart. Alternatively allow 15 per square foot. Beware of squirrel or mice damage to the bulbs.
