Tulipa Queen of Night is one of the darkest delights, and justifiably one of our best sellers. Though not quite black, only Paul Scherer comes close. The deepest hue shows on bulbs in direct sunlight, in more shade they are deep purple and often taller.
Tulipa Queen of Night bulbs should be planted 5" (12cm) deep and 5" (12cm) apart in well drained soil with a sunny aspect. Alternatively plant in blocks allowing 7-9 per square foot. This tulip is great for borders where the dark flowers add a touch of depth and mystery. Don't be in a rush to get the tulips in the ground as they will benefit from planting in late October or early November, by which time the first frosts will have reduced the level of disease in the soil.
