Tulipa sylvestris is Easy to grow, and possibly the only one apart from T. sprengeri that will persist in some shade, but naturally rather shy to flower. We have some that have increased happily under an Amelanchier for 10 years or so, flowering intermittently as seems to be their nature. The flowers are sulphur yellow and fragrant.
Tulipa sylvestris bulbs should be planted at a depth of 4-6" (10-15cm) and 4" (10cm) apart, in fertile, well drained soil that catches the full April sun and is sheltered from strong winds. Suitable for naturalizing in fine grass. Discourage mice and squirrels from eating the bulbs.
