Originating from East Asia and North America, Astilbe (common name of False Goats Beard) perform best when situated in partial sun and water retentive rich soils. That said, they will perform in more open and sunny aspects as long as they are kept well watered. Astilbe is a clump forming perennial, with mounds of deep green, serrated foliage giving rise to flower spikes holding feather like flower displays throughout the summer months
