Many of the new varieties of scabious are compact and bred for the patio – Fama Deep Blue is more for the borders, where it likes a full sun aspect and good, well draining soils. A clump forming perennial of green/grey serrated leaves, with extra large lilac blue pincushion flowerheads are held on long, sturdy stems which sway in the summer breeze. Flowering from midsummer onwards, fama Deep Blue is a magnet for bees. Supplied in a 2ltr pot in mid May
Scabiosa fama Deep Blue is best grown in the border. Dig a hole approximately twice the size of the rootball. Knock the plant out of the pot, and place into the centre of the hole, and backfill, ensuring the returned soil is lightly pressed into place. Also ensure the crown of the plant is above the soil surface.
Fully grown this Scabiosa will be 60cm tall and 60cm wide, so please bear this in mind when finalising the position of this plant in your garden
Scabious prefers the full sun, but it will tolerate a partial shade apect. They prefer a water retentive, but free draining and fertile soil, and are drought tolerant. Keep well watered during the establishment year. Dead head throughout the flowering season to promote fresh buds
Flowers June - September
Height 24” (60cm)
