Especially valuable for being happy in heavier soils and a feature plant for the border in late spring where they make magnificent shows with many erect stems of deep lavender blue flowers, curving skyward from thick clumps when established. They set no seed, increasing as the bulbs split up. Longer lasting flowers result from planting them in some shade and they love clay soils that hold the moisture. Ideal partners might be Polygonatum x hybridum, Maianthemum racemosum or Tellima grandiflora. We supply big bulbs that should be planted with 5” of soil over them, 9” (22cm) apart.
Camassia leichtlinii caerulea bulbs should be planted 4-6" (10-15 cm) deep , 9" (23 cm) apart in small groups in moisture retentive soil, even heavy clay in a sunny position or even part shade (where the flowers last longer). They like a moist spring followed by a dry dormancy. They prefer not to be disturbed once established. They set little seed but build up as clumps with (in time) many flower stems. They need no attention in the summer, they will die back to a dormant bulb and reappear the next year.
