Large and golden flowered, and as suggested in the name - very early. A cross involving the golden flowered C. angustifolius which is native to Crimea and has been cultivated since the seventeenth century.
Crocus x leonidii Early Gold bulbs should be planted 3-4" (8-10cm) deep in gritty, well drained soil and full spring sun. It looks best in small tight groups of 2 or 3 bulbs only 1.5" (3cm) apart repeated at larger intervals. Do beware of mice and squirrel attacks which can be overcome with the use of buried mesh baskets.
