Ipheion Rolf Fiedler has broader and more fleshy leaved than the I. uniflorum varieties and consequently (I think) maybe not so tough. The flowers are flatter and an extraordinary blue, set off by the tips of the yellow stamens. They pick and stand up well as a small cut flower for a posy.
Ipheion Rolf Fiedler has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
Ipheion Rolf Fiedler bulbs should be planted 2" (5cm) deep in reasonably well drained soils and a moderately sunny site and although the leaves may be burnt off in a heavy frost, they seem to recover well.
