Iris Katharine Hodgkin is an utterly distinct hybrid raised by EB Anderson in the 1960s. Predominantly yellow with blue and sea-green veining and markings over the wide petals. Probably the most persistent and perennial form when planted in a rich, gritty soil in a sunny site. They are Middle Eastern in origin and do best in well drained conditions with a dry warm summer rest.
Iris Katharine Hodgkin has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
Iris Katharine Hodgkin bulbs should be planted 5" (12cm) deep and 2-4" (5-10cm) apart in well-drained, rich, gritty soil in full sun and probably best in a raised bed. 15 bulbs will nicely fill a 9" (23cm) pot. Top dress the soil with grit so the flowers are not splashed with dirt in the rain. They do best with a dry warm summer rest.
