Familiar and much loved favourites with ivory-white trumpets, flushed with pink on their backs, providing great wafts of beautiful scent. Accommodating in most gardens, either in borders or large deep pots. The autumn planted L. regale bulbs always seem to do better than spring planted ones which is logical as they have longer to root over the winter before they flower and consequently have greater anchorage and resources available to them through a wider root run.

RHS Award of Garden Merit.

This plant/cultivar has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.

Planting Instructions

Lilium regale bulbs should be planted about 5" (12cm) deep and 6" (15cm) apart, in fertile, well drained soil in a partly shaded position, among the roots of trees suits well, but not too crowded. Lily beetle is a scourge, red and black and very visible, They are eminently squishable but their larvae in a slimy protective blanket are worse to deal with. Over much of the UK now they are a pest for which there seem to be no natural predators. The insecticide Provado does work to reduce their numbers.
