Native to the valleys to the north of India, in Nepal, Kashmir and into Afghanistan. They are plants for part or full shade with broad tightly furied leaves that open with dark spots - hence some of the family obtaining the nickname os Spotty Dick.  Pink flowers, well hedden under the foliage may give way to equally well hidden red fruit in the summer. Cool, mosit growing conditions are a requirement.

Planting Instructions

These are hardy plants that need to be grown in shade, ideally not too dry. Prepare the ground with plenty of organic matter and firm into a suitably deep planting hole at around the same depth as it was when potted. Allow 45 cm spread and the same in height. Summer dormant.
