Polygonatum x hybridum belongs to the Solomon's Seal family and is a naturally occurring hybrid between P. multiflorum and P. odoratum with gracefully arching stems and pendant jade green and ivory flowers. Increasing slowly but steadily to form a thicket. A great screen in damp, moist shade. The stems cut well for flower arrangements when you have plenty of them. Their only problem is their appeal to the saw fly caterpillar and an eye needs to be kept on them for quick action in May when they are active.
Polygonatum x hybridum has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
The hardiest and toughest Soloman's Seal with arching stems in green with white flowers held under the arch in the leaf axles. Hardy and requiring no attention at all ! They make taller stems when planted in some shade, particularly if in moisture retaining heavy soil, but they will grow in full sun (where we grow them!). Plant Plant 4-5" (10-12cm) deep and 5" (12cm) apart. When there is a clump you can use the stems for flower arrangements. One issue with many of the family is the Saw Fly caterpillar, a grey caterpillar that eats the foliage. Despite this making them look tatty they seem to survive it perfectly well. You could spray with an insecticide once you see them, or pick most of them off.
