Some bulbs are beautiful even when dormant – this is one of those. This is a potential giant though, our biggest tuber resulted in a stem that we had to stake and the plant reached over 6’ with the spadix taller still, the whole supported by purple-blackvelvety stems. The bulbs for sale are smaller and might take a few years to reach those heights. Hardy shade lovers. SUPPLIED AS 50 - 60 mm DIAMETER TUBERS
A plant of part shade ideally and because of its potential height maybe some shelter from the wind. Plant the tuber with the 'belly button' facing up and in good humus rich soil that retains moisture but does not flood. Ideally plant the tubers with 4" (10 cm) of soil over the tuber, more if the tuber is huge because the stem will need more support. In cold areas you could lift the tuber overwinter and store it dry and frost free. If pollenated they form red seedheads.
Flowers June / July
Height 6' (2m) in time
