Early flowering (for a Crocosmia) with a magnificent contrast between the deep green leaves and the crimson red flowers. A sun lover and one of those iconic plants that most people can recognise from afar for good reason. Bare root bulbs.
This plant/cultivar has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
These lovely staples of the summer herbaceous border will not flourish on poor dry soil - they must have rich soil and summer moisture. They are hardy once established deeply, but do benefit from winter mulching to protect any early shoots, particularly in colder areas. Plant 4-6"(10-15cm) apart and 6 " deep in a sunny spot and water well on planting. Alternatively plant in a pot and plant out in June, after all chance of frost is past. It is helpful to plan to split the clumps every 3-4years as this helps to prevent them declining. Instantly recognisble, with large crimson flowers on a strongly arching stem reaching about 36".
