The bleeding heart, so called as their flowers are heart shaped. Masses of these pink/white flowers are produced each spring, held on arching branches above deep green foliage and sometimes red stems. Supplied as a 2 year old 2ltr pot – this may be dormant or it could be coming back into life, it all depends on the spring!
These are best planted in the border. Dig a hole approximately twice the size of the rootball. Knock the plant out of the pot, and place into the centre of the hole, and backfill, ensuring the returned soil is lightly pressed into place.
Fully grown this dicentra will be 2ft (60cm) tall and 2ft (60cm) wide, so please bear this in mind when finalising the position of this plant in your garden
Dicentra prefer a partial shade environment, in a reasonably strong soil that maintains some water retention. These will die back in the later summer, so remove any spent growth, as they will return the following spring
