Pale ivory green with a purple centre and hemmed around the edge again in purple. Massed and jostling for space on succulent stems, some of which are darkly freckled. As they set seed what were flowers swell and inflate to an architectural green cudgel that develops a purple and brown suntan as it ages. Of interest in the garden from August till the frosts. Glossy leaved and also good for pots. Supplied as bulbs.
This plant/cultivar has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
Plant in good soil in the sun 5" (13cm) deep, 10" (25cm) apart or in pots in a sunny position. Allow for 3 bulbs in a 14" (35cm) pot. Water well in summer.
