Iris unguicularis, is the species plant with pale mauve flowers, the standards slightly paler and more silvery. A tough survivor even in poor soil conditions. Ingestion may cause severe discomfort. They are pretty much evergreen with a long flowering time that is very weather dependant in winter.
Iris unguicularis should be planted in a sheltered, sunny site in well drained soil and allow for 12" (30cm) spread and height. Water in until they are established. Only tidy the foliage by pulling out old leaves that have gone brown, avoid severe cutting back as this is not recommended. Firm them in and water well initially. Once established they really need very little care.
